Our winter studio recital is scheduled for Friday, December 16th at 6:00p.m. at MacPherson Presbyterian Church. All students are welcome to play one or more pieces of music. Participation in the recital is not required, but definitely encouraged. I am asking that all performers arrive by 5:45 so that each student can try out the piano, have a bathroom break, and find their seat. Thanks to the generosity of MacPherson, there will not be a recital fee.
MacPherson Presbyterian Church is located at 3525 Cliffdale Road, at the corner of McPherson Church Road and Cliffdale Road. It is a big yellow church on a hill with a nice big parking lot (please see the map below).
Dress Code: This recital is a special event to share our musical gifts, and it is important to wear something special to honor this occasion. Please refrain from wearing jeans, flip flops, and sneakers. For the men, a collared shirt and nice pants is good (but if you would like to wear a jacket and tie, that would be great). For the ladies, a dress, skirt and top, or a top and some nice pants are all good choices. Please make sure to practice in your shoes beforehand to make sure that you can walk and use the pedal comfortably in them. Nails must be trimmed short. You may wear your hair any way you like, but please make sure that it does not cover your face.
What to Bring: Please bring your sheet music, even if it is memorized and you do not plan to use it. It is always reassuring to have your book on hand to look at your piece one last time before you perform. There will be a reception following the recital, and for those that would like to help with food, please let me know what you would like to bring.
Fall Challenge: All students were given a Fall Challenge sheet at the beginning of the semester. These were organized in to four groups: Renaissance, Romantic, Impressionist, and Young Musician. I have been checking on the status of each student’s fall challenge sheet in lessons. The most recent assignments are the Reading Assignment and the Listening Assignment (some groups are responsible for both, while others are only required to complete the Listening Assignment—check the Fall Challenge sheet to see which ones are part of your assignment). All students who complete the challenge get a certificate at the recital, and there will be a few special prizes at the recital as well. Information about the fall challenge, including directions for the reading assignment and practice logs for those that need them, can be found here:https://ayschafer.com/piano-lessons/student-assignments/ . Students participating in the fall challenge must have all work turned in by December 15th (emailing the assignment is perfectly fine).
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Please RSVP to the recital by Monday, December 12th.
